Alotta good shit has happened between now and the last time I logged on. Has it been a year?
Major things are coming up. Gonna be on my brother from another, J'Lynn's, "Lynn&Learn" upcoming mixtape early September... Two other things are concrete next month... We're opening for Juicy J here in Florida, and performing at the infamous SOB nightclub in NYC for another upcoming artist called Huey Mack. I don't have any fan pages or shit like that, and won't for a year because I have a year left in school in FL before I move to NY and start my own project. I could drop records now, but when I do, I want my time and energy to be 100% dedicated to it. I don't like half assing things. I'm recording and writing tracks for it as we speak though, cause I want the finished product to be extremely polished. Anyway, when I heard this track, it sounded like something LA would like. Here's a rough draft of a track me and my bro did... There's gonna be samples added to the beginning/end, and it isn't professionally mastered yet. http://soundcloud.com/user674096/01-jlynn-feat-orane-ikon-1x4 Some of ya'll might wanna hear more of his shit and keep updated on when the mixtape drops next month (I'm on 2 of the tracks on there.), so you can follow his Twitter and Youtube, and you'll be able to see mine when I'm ready cause it's all the same team. (And yes, the Kendrick Lamar and Juicy J features are real) Sorry for the paragraphs, but I figured I'd do my "HI GUYS" re-introduction and post a track I wanted to at the same time. Shoutout to Kay B who told me he ran RAM away and Dal who hit me up for a a feature. They both hit me up on Facebook this week (Coincidental and random cause that's the only LA connection I've had in a whillllle), so signing in right now was just meant to be. Summery: Hope ya'll like the track... |

Manc, thanks for listening. The only contact I have of snooz is on here yo... Still my homie though. I haven't been active online in any way, not just LA. I haven't heard of those dudes you mentioned but if you think you got something marketable, push it with a passion.
Yea Kay, I've been actively writing everyday. Ironically, even more than when I came on here daily. Posting lyrics on some some future tracks would be an idea. |

My man
You're definitely loosening up a lot more since you started and finding a rhythm and a tone that suits you better...you've always been able to write good enough shit but I feel like the best chance you have of separating yourself from the rest of those guys and really making a go for it is by challenging yourself more on that side of things. Rhyme schemes, topical shit, hardline shit... I'm not saying become a gimmick, but I do feel like it needs to go in SOME direction...even tho I am basing this all on one track Good job with everything Make it happen

Thank ya'll.
And yeah, the whole vibe of the track was a cypher, kicking back and forth lines. My nigga's a huuge fan of that shit. Like you said, it's just one track you're hearing, and I'm glad you realized that. I know this vibe (alone) isn't enough to hold an audience the size I want. Not even a hook in there. There's definitely a time/place for it though, and my homie knew I was down for this shit... It's the style I started out with... Haha, that's a Lyrical Assault battling style... It just reminded me of some shit I would write on LA. That Topical shit you're talking about is definitely present in most of the tracks I'm writing. That's actually what I prefer to listen to on a more common basis, so I've naturally progressed to that. |

Pretty much gonna be repeating what's been said already in here but yeah, I agree with the vibe of the track, it's perfect , classic hip hop style. So, good choice on delivering it that way cause it seems to suit both of yalls voices. If I offered you any honest critique (maybe you don't want it) it would be that ya partner sounds alot more natural and relaxed on the track than you do. Your timing and breathing seem a bit awkward and forced throughout your verse. I think the vocal delivery you used and the amount of lyrics you tried to fit in there seemed forced and was throwing you off. Still thought it was good overall.

I can say that I like the style your developing....right now you remind me of cypress hill. This was pretty decent and I think you got no problem flowing and keeping time. Maybe a bit more presence is needed but its all comming together nicely.

Aight cool. Thanks for the listens. Always open to everyone's opinions/advice. Gotta pick and choose which to apply, but it's all very well appreciated cause there's always room for improvement when it comes to any art. Glad y'all feeling it overall.
I might drop remixes to some tracks here and there in the short term, but there's equipment I'll want for visuals before I can push it like I really want to first. So that's where I'm at. |

The best thing about my opinion is that it's right
Seriously tho, you're on that trajectory in any case. You're not gonna come out of this worse off than when you went in. So don't let me come across like a hater - for me it's just that there are so many good MCs out there and that isn't enough, basically. I don't think it's as much about luck or being the brother of the friend of an A&R or whatever as people make out - a lot is just how you position yourself, how you specialise, and I don't even think it takes simply 'selling out' or becoming gimmicky either, not for any and everyone. Every other fucker who 'makes it' can flip 50 more styles than you ever hear them do. And frankly rap's biggest weakness on a whole is that there are too many who just go through the motions 'cuz they can and 'cuz the beat is nice... so if you can - and you can - and I'm not even saying you weren't aiming to anyway - DO hit that next shit

Word. I don't believe in that luck thing either. Your own buzz has to be built... You have to make your own luck in a sense. I was referring to everyone's opinion/advice collectively.
You would make a good executive producer. I definitely want your opinions, cause I agree with everything you just said and seem to have a thorough understanding of what it takes. You nailed it. And I know you don't mean necessarily gimmicky... Rather a certain distinctful sound / mood people know theyre gonna get when they put you on wax... Something that people can refer to you for as an artist. I've done so many tracks, and literally studied the game so much that I feel like when I drop my music you'll be surprised at my understanding. The best feeling is when you find that formula where you can still be youself, while having a sound people will still attract towards. I'm excited to just make music and show it to the world but since I want to make a REAL run at it, I'm not basing dropping tracks just off "because I feel like it " now. I need the business/commercialization and promotion money to be proper first, then I can start doing that. I have a long term plan and I'm using this school shit to my advantage for it first. |
