Welcome to the first issue of LA Times.
I thank all of the members in advance to taking their times to read this magazine, those whom are involved, and those who took their time out to help me get this done. And remember this magazine is monthly, and is the magazine for the month of June (released in July), it's not for the things that happened throughout the year, but just in that month. So with that in mind! Enjoy!

Topical Tournament

Round 1

Nigerchu vs Exoduzt

Nigerchu got a raw deal with this first round matchup as he was put up against one of the best and the favorite to either win or be in the finals of this topical tournament. Both of these guys had good verses, but ultimately Exo took the KO in what was a landslide. Nigerchu had the potential in this one but just isn’t an experience enough writer yet to match up against a writer like Exo.

JVBM vs Boss

This was another battle that resulted in a KO and a landslide. JV did not put up a fight in this one. As quoted by Kiki his verse was too “simplistic and predictable”. Boss came out with a good angle and executed his verse more than well enough to take his writing skills into the second round of the tournament.

The Law vs Nigma

A battle that many wanted to see later on in the rounds and was probably what most consider the battle of the first round. Nigma pulled away with the first vote of the battle, and The Law ended it with last 5. By what the voters have said Nigma had a very well written verse, but the Law took the better approach to the topic.

Dougysnuggy vs Fuckoff

Unfortunately, this was the disappointing battle of the first round as Dougy was the only battler to have not shown up. Fuckoff showed up with a well-written verse, and a very enjoyable drop from the topic he was given. Many would say he would have won that battle with the verse he wrote whether Doug showed up for the battle or not.

Levy420 vs Kiki Spirez

Another good read of the first round. Levy came with a decent verse against Kiki and Kiki dropped a verse that was well put together and had little no mistakes. Kiki ended up taking this battle to a 3-0KO. Although Levy came with a good verse, Kiki piece was still better in all facets of the topical battle. The flow, the approach, the scheme.. Etc.. It was definitely a great start to this tournament for Kiki.

Point Blank vs Shankley

This was yet another battle in the first round that ended in a 3-0KO in favor to Point Blank. Shankley dropped a decent verse but in the end of this it was not match for the verse that Point Blank had dropped. He had a unique approach and executed it well enough to have an all around better verse in this one.

Hex vs Trizzy Tre

Hex was no match for Tre in this battle. From the voters POV hex had a cool narrative and was able to progess through it with nice flow, but Tre had a smoother verse from start to finish. His schemes were well over Hex’s level of writing and his topic was much more on point.

YoungChef vs XLNC

Both of these battlers had verses that were very inexperienced and needed tons of work to fix them up. In the end XLNC won the battle in three votes due to being a topical and having a verse that was written a little bit better. YoungChef dropped a sloppy verse and seemed as if he doesn’t really get the idea of how to write a verse for a topical battle just yet.

Round 2

Trizzy Tre vs Fuckoff

One of the biggest disappointments of this tournament. Fuckoff, one of the better topical writers and has proved he can hang/beat the best of them no showed in his battle with Tre. Tre still dropped an enjoyable verse, and stayed sharp into his next round of the battle.

Exoduzt vs Kiki Spirez

This was definitely the battle of the round in round 2. Both of these writers dropped some dope verses. Either one of them could have taken this battle. They both took completely different approaches and both of there verses were well written. If a different set of voters were to vote on this battle, I am not so sure it would be the same outcome as it was. This was definitely the first nail biter of the tournament.

Boss vs XLNC

The second disappointment of the second round. Boss won by no show as XLNC could not get his verse in time either. Boss came with a decent verse and one that would have most likely took this battle for him as well.

Point Blank vs The Law

Another great match up of round 2. One that almost resulted in another disappointing battle, but The Law got his verse in before it turned into a No show. Battle turned out to be a somewhat close one until the end where PB took it 5-2. It seemed as if the voters thought the battle was pretty even but preferred the approach and angle that PB took to the topic. The Law’s verse seemed more of a history lesson to some of the voters and they found it less enjoyable.

Round 3

Boss vs Point Blank

Another no show, as it gets deeper in the tournament. One can only hope that the no shows would have stopped in the second round. Surprisingly, someone made in this far and still no showed. Point Blank dropped a quick verse to take it on to the finals.

Trizzy Tre vs Exoduzt

Exoduzt is once again apart of the battle of the round. The verses are in and the voting is close. It seems as if Tre has a shot at upsetting Exo. Both came with dope ass verses here and very good approaches to their topic. We can only wait and see if Tre can upset Exo, or if the favorite will make it on to the finals to go against Point Blank…< This was old. So as I post this up now in an awesome battle Exoduzt came out on top 5-2 and is headed to the finals.

Finals

Point Blank vs Exoduzt

A battle for the ages. Both of these members are prolific in all aspects of writing on the site. Point Blank known for his great battle skills and Exoduzt known for what this tournament is all about his topicals. Can the "monster" point blank take out, the favorite and one of, if not the best storyteller on LA. We will soon find out as their verses are due to be posted on the 15th of July. Make it a great one guys.

Events

Bloodlines II

Bloodlines one was a huge success on LA. The first bloodlines had two title matches and a variety of other dope matches that took place. The text title changed hands from Cuba to DTK and the topical title match was won by Manc as he successfully defended it against Exoduzt. There was also a multi rhyme battle, a picture battle, a grudge match battle among other battles that turned out to make this one of the most successful events to occur on LA. Here is a look back at the first bloodlines poster.

Bloodlines II is to take place after the topical tournament has ended. There has been much discussion as to what battles are going to take place. There are rumors that there may be some title defenses. The sign up threads have already been up throughout the end of June and so far it seems this will be another successful tournament with very good matches so long as everyone shows up and writes at their best. We are all looking forward to it and waiting to see what battle we are going to be apart of. The Bloodlines II poster will say it all and it will be up in due time… Let’s hope it’s another badass event that we all get to be apart of.

OMOTM (May)

OMOTM came down to a tie for this months voting. Both Nigmas, The Lexicon and CHAIN’s, Facebook crook were tied for votes 5-5. For the tie breakers, Exoduzt went to the poll and CHAIN’s lexicon beat out Nigma’s open mic 6-5 in the poll. Thus, naming CHAIN open mic, The Facebook Crook, the Open Mic of the Month for the month of May. Here are some excerpts from what people thought about

Facebook Crook:

Just STOP IT. You make people start Opens, then highlight the verse, and delete that shit.

Also, the uggs bit had me gasping for air. Props.

There were some other battles I considered for the top battles of the month of June and some that would have made the list that got closed out in June. But out of these ones that didn’t make the list was because I didn’t want to stack this part of the magazine and the others that would have made it that closed out in June started in other months. So it technically isn’t a part of the top battles in June. I expect you guys to put out some sick battles in the month of july so we can continue to add dopeness to this section.

Warning: Keep in mind some of these members may have received a ban in the following month.

 Top Battles

Boss vs Packed

A good match up here, no doubt. Boss has been gradually paving his way up the rankings latter with a record of 8-4. Packed has started off his time at LA with 4-0 record. Both threw some nice punches against each other in this one. But as it seems, Packed had ended this battle quickly with a 3-0KO to “pack” that undefeated record. He just had the better consistency in that battle. This would be a good rematch with both battlers knowing what each other is capable of and what they need to do to step up. Could they be the up and coming stars of the battlefield?

Notez vs Boss

Seemingly once again Boss, is involved in a battle and a knockout for the top battles for the month of June. Unfortunately, he is the one being knocked out in these ones. Both dropped with some decent verses in this one as well. Boss in this one as well did not show the consistency in this one to take the battle and as it ended Notez had the best bar of the battle as well. Notez can be added to what I had questioned in the previous top battle, could they be the up and coming stars of the battlefield? Keep it up the great writing guys.

SeneiShun vs Vellum

Vellum, whom is known for his nifty wordplay and punches went against Sensei Shun, who one of the newer members on the site. Although, it says he joined around September it seems as if this is the first time he is truly active. This was only a few bar battle, but both came out with dope verses. Both had some nice punches w/ nice wordplay added to their verses which is what we expected coming from Vellum. In this end, Vellum took this battle with a 3-0KO.

Notez vs The Law

Notez made it on to the top battle list again and again his was at the plate swinging for the fences, but the result was a strikeout. The battle ended as a nice one. Notez had a good verse that was packed with some presonals and decent concepts. You can say the same for The Law’s verse who finished the battle with a 3-0KO.

Packed vs Concrete

Another new member that has once again made it to the top battles list. Packed has been showing his skills and really pushing forward in the battlefield. This was a great punch packed battle and a very close on at that. I can’t say much about the verses because the battle is still under way and it’s a close one. Could go either way in this one. Let’s put some finishing votes on this, so these guys can find out who will come out victorious.

Ill Scripturez vs H4ZE and Elite

Another dope battle between some newer members on the site and one that has shown nice elevation and only seems to continue to get better. This was a bit of a unique matchup and battle with it being 1 versus 2. It is part of the reason that this battle made the top battles list for the month of June. All three had some nice verses but this is again a battle I can’t say too much about because the voting is still underway. It currently sit as a 2-0 for Ill Scriptures, will he finish it off? Or will the H4ZE and Elite combo make a run for a comeback.. After checking back before posting this, Ill Scripturez has taken this battle to a 3-0KO.

Point Blank vs The Law

A matchup that has been waiting upon for a while. Leader vs Leader. From what was said on other threads and in the battle itself, it is the best battle on the battlefield right now. Both The law and Point Blank has came out swinging with punches and personals. At the moment, Point Blank is leading this battle 2 to 1. This is another one among many battles that LA members will have to vote the fuck up on. This battle is now standing at 3-1.

This was a great month of OM’s with a ton of pieces that have the potential to make it onto the classic list. Tons of dope drops as well as drops that have showed many members how they have elevated and put newer members on this list. This was definitely not a bad month at all in this department. So let’s get on our way to some of the top OM”s of the month. I am sure I am going to miss out on some, but that’s the nature of the beast because I can’t put every Open Mic on the list.

Top Open Mics

Zinaii – Don’t Act Trizz

This OM was a great diss drop on Trizz after the slick move he pulled against Arthur in a battle that had the championship belt up for grabs. Zinaii really went at it and in return got good recognition in the feedback.

Exoduzt - Tongue Punch ya Mothers Fart Box Vol 3

Featuring Beans and Smooth

A Open Mic featuring two of our OM kings and anther nice writer in beans, so you know it was bound to be a dope piece. This was also a volume 3 of a drop that has proven to be dope in it’s previous volumes.

 Pompus – American Teen

Here is another newer member that had a piece shine in the open mic. Had all the aspects of writing intertwined in a verse with a dope storyline to pull any readers through start or finish.

H4ZE – Son of an Addict

Dope OM here, filled with some awesome emotion and a drop that many people could relate too. That emotion was also the greatest aspect of this verse by H4ZE. As we all know that a piece like this can be outstanding due to that emotional factor.

Nigma - Yo El Rey
Featuring Chain and Swordedstylez

A sick combo between these three and they all did their thing and shined in each of their verses. A open mic that you can’t miss if you are looking to read something hot.

Exoduzt – “A cold path on a lonely dark road”

An Amazing Open Mic drop that had a perfect picture/verse combo. It got a ton of tremendous feedback and ended as a 5 star rated open mic. This was definitely storytelling at it’s best.

Elite - Sleepers
Featuring H4ze

This Open Mic was exactly what the title says as well. It was a sleeper. Not in a way that it got slept on but in a way that it was two members that are elevating quickly that came out and just dropped a dope ass OM together. Absolute Flow and Schemes in this one.

Elite - Pharaoh Session
Featuring H4ZE, Red-b, smoothtung & Zinaii

This was a dope blend of writers whom all molded together nicely. This was a good read as any in the open mic section.

 Smoothtung – Skitzo

One of the true top of the OM’s this month. It hasn’t’ got the recognition it deserves yet due to the jesus burgundy guy fucking up the OM at the time, but nonetheless this drop was filled with nothing but gold and fire melted down in to one fine ass verse.

Shankley – A Day in the Life of a Noob

A piece that should be on here just due to the fact that scotty came out and gave it feedback. This piece fit the noob perspective perfectly with nice writing skills and the added humor that is bound to make any longstanding member have a few laughs.

Chain - The Good Shepherd
Featuring Smoothtung

Another OM that has a couple of the OM Kings in it. Great little verses by the both of them that came along with a dope concept for an OM. Both did their thing and this piece definitely deserves a spot on the top oms.

Elite - Chapter I: The Spinal Chills
Elite - Chapter II: Welcome To Heaven

These two drops have a great story line to them. Elite took some feedback and advice and put together a better revised version of chapter 1. Then made these pieces even better when he came out with chapter 2 that was in the daughter POV.

Point Blank - Fantasies
Featuring Elite

One of the sites best writers with a guy who has really started doing some damage in the Open mic section. This OM was dope all around, but I must say that Point Blank absolutely destroyed his verse and the members that left feedback definitely gave their appreciation as to how well his verse was written. He left a mark in the OM with that one.

 Exoduzt – Wind Chimes

Exoduzt with another OM that had a brilliant story line. As I said in the comments and a perfect way to put this that Exo’s storys are like watching a movie the way they progress and paint the picture so well. This OM is a prime example of that statement and is a must read.

H4ZE - Credit Counseling
Featuring Chain & Shankley

Another great verse by the members of the hunger games. All three dropped some dopeness on this. You know it’s bound to be a good OM with an elevated H4ZE and Shankley, along with CHAIN and his magical keyboard he’s got.

 Smoothtung – C. Montegomery Burns

Dope dope OM right here. You have to scroll down a bit to get to the finalized version of this verse but it was well worth it as Smoothtung came out and produced another gem in the Open Mic Section.

Swordedstylez - Five Kingz
Featuring Chain, Nigma, Exoduzt & Ill Scriptures

Just by the above title and names you know this was a dope ass collab. It was fire in every verse and a well put together and organized open mic by SS and the others. All 5 members never let down and made this piece shine it’s own way. This is will definitely be a contender for the OMOTM and is one for the ages.

Swordedstylez – It’s Like This (freeverse)

If your looking for some of the sickest flow in the OM right now this is the verse to go and read. This drop had bars out the ass and was as smooth as silk. We are still waiting for the audio version.

JBrenn - Hampton River
Featuring H4ZE

Another dope OM including H4ZE. The intertwined story lines and the concept of the Hampton River here was outstanding. Both of these writers turned this into a dope piece with the storytelling in each of their pieces.

The Law - The Rich, The Poor, and In Between
Featuring Swordedstylez and Smoothtung

A drop were each person had a lifestyle based on their wealth class. Each member dropped fire and had their own unqiue style and take on their sections. Some dope verses packed with some fun humor in this OM drop.

The Law – The First Page

A drop that got tons of recognition in the feedback. It had a dope concept and bars that utilized lines that consisted as one word. Coming from the feedback it was amazing and poetic and it ended with 5 stars on a piece that has gotten 6 ratings so far. I will personally thank all those who left feedback on it here on the magazine, as I appreciate it a ton

Ill Scripturez – Swimming Elephant

This verse was written cleverly and had an outstanding concept to go along with it. All the aspects of writing were put nicely together into this verse. It was a great one and the other members were sitting there wishing for it to be longer.

Classic Open Mic

Here we a bringing it back classy with a touch of the past from King Jehu and his open mic drop If I Never Come Home. Go back in time and drop some more feedback on this piece and give him some love for a classic here and don’t forget the members that molded this site together from the beginning.

King Jehu - If I Never Come Home

If I never come home
I want you to forget I was here
Knowing me is something you might just regret in a year
(if I never come home)Maybe I was meant to be gone
maybe I shouldn't pretend to be strong
If I never come home
Maybe i'll be happy one day
maybe I'll be better off someday
I'll never come home
You could tell I felt alone from my face
Cause I never felt at home in this place

If I never come home, please don't pick up the phone
I need a change of scenery, i'm so sick of this zone
This job sucks... I won't stay though some are willing
I feel unforgiven, this whole life in unfulfulling
My girl wants to give me the world, I won't let her
What good is to have the world if you're feeling no better
Damn, why do I take it there that much
I's so unnatural for somebody to care that much
... it's not like me to bare that much
I'm a man, I'm not supposed to share that much!
Yeah, that sucks, I wanna be alone for a while
I don't belong here, and I'm not the one prone to denial
There's no success here, only death and disorder
I need to take a boat, catch a plane, get to the border
If I snap, I'll be making a scene
If I stay, that's what'll happen, cause I have no way of breaking ruitine

If I never come home
I want you to forget I was here
Knowing me is something you might just regret in a year
(if I never come home)Maybe I was meant to be gone
maybe I shouldn't pretend to be strong
If I never come home
Maybe i'll be happy one day
maybe I'll be better off someday
I'll never come home
You could tell I felt alone from my face
Cause I never felt at home in this place

If I never come home, tell my mother not to cry tears
Cause i know pretty soon, I was gonna die here
And I know you'll understand this later
Everyone gets rescued except for the savior
I know you tried to help, but I'm beyond it
Only time I don't feel sick is when I'm unconscious
My girl sees there's something wrong when she sees my face
But doesn't know that I just need my space
Yesterday was Ok, today's all bad
And tomorrow will swing around like a baseball bat
And I feel stuck in between...
If I don't come home, you can wish me luck with my dreams
You might ask what the fuck do I mean
I might succeed by myself, i have failed enough with a team
If I never come home... please go on with your life
I'll go off to try to make mine right

If I never come home
I want you to forget I was here
Knowing me is something you might just regret in a year
(if I never come home)Maybe I was meant to be gone
maybe I shouldn't pretend to be strong
If I never come home
Maybe i'll be happy one day
maybe I'll be better off someday
I'll never come home
You could tell I felt alone from my face
Cause I never felt at home in this place

I'll I never come home, If you remember me, remember the prophet
When I saw injustice, I fought to stop it
If I never come home, don't be sad, smile to yourself
Know that only I could save myself
If I never come home, It's cause I was meant to go
Whether you were a friend or foe...

I won't come home, so you will never see me again
A long, draw-out goodbye and it ends....

If I never come home
I want you to forget I was here
Knowing me is something you might just regret in a year
(if I never come home)Maybe I was meant to be gone
maybe I shouldn't pretend to be strong
If I never come home
Maybe i'll be happy one day
maybe I'll be better off someday
I'll never come home
You could tell I felt alone from my face
Cause I never felt at home in this place

Audio Section

Top Audio Battles

As we know there won’t really be much in this section but we are looking forward to getting the audio side of things really going on LA, but we can only do this with the work of the members themselves. As of now I am only going to list the battles that have both parties have dropped their verses, which I know is not very many in this case.

Swordedstyles vs XLNC

This was decent battle overall but in the end XLNC really stood no much for Swordedstylez, whom is much more experienced in all aspects of audio. Sworded had the flow, delivery, and bars to make this an easy victory for him. If the audio belt comes back, SS would be one of the members that is in top contention for it.

 IZIAH vs Rapper T

With an audio section thinner than Lizzie Velasquez, this is bound to make the top of the list. This wasn’t the best of battles, but both of these members went out there and did their thing on the mic, which more than we can say for many members here. As of now the battle is still being voted on, so there is no decided winner. It seems that both members are listening to their criticism and hopefully will take their audio game to the next level in future battles and open mics.

 Top Audio Mic

The Audio Mic section seems to be gradually growing, but it’s still way behind what we as LA would like it to be. In time we can hope, that the audio section will continue to pick up activity and provide a spark in audio battles as well, so Scotty will consider releasing an active audio belt into LA.

 Hohae – Be Alright

Came out with a surprise dope track for everyone to listen to. He got good feedback from this and it’s said he’s has taken a tremendous bounce of improvement in his audio game. Keep doing your thing Hohae.

 ILL Scriptures – Concrete Shoes

Dope, dope track right here from a member who has put out many dope tracks in the audio mic section for LA to listen to. Came out with a light beat and tight lyrics. I don’t see too many not likely this track.

Swordedstylez – Fucked At A Rave

This is the only 5 star rated audio mic for the month of June and it is deservedly slow. Nigma went as far as to relate Swordedstylez to Shakespeare for this one. It had all the aspects a dope track could have from the beat and production, to the flow and the lyrics. SS did a hell of job with this one.

 Ill Scripturez – Gone Tomorrow

Another audio mic from Ill scriptures which we knew was bound to come. This track was greatness and is definitely one I can see people downloading on their mp3’s and CD’s to listen too. Ill Scriptures has had a great month in the audio section for the month of June.

 Vellum – Broken Bottled Emotions

Delivery, flow and lyrics were just right on point. Your tracks when you dropped them are definitely up there with there with the likes of what SS and IS have been dropping lately. Dopeness, and this is a track many should definitely listen too.

 Ill Scriptures – Oh

Ill scriptures with yet again another dope track for the month of June. He had many others as well that most of you should go peep but as this is just the top audio mics, I can’t go crazy listing every audio mic that has been dropped. This was another gem to add to the book here though. Great job on picking up this audio section.

 Swordedstylez – It’s Like This

SS came out with a dope beat, dope lyrics as we all have expected from him. This is a piece to go along with the drop he had in the open mic that got a lot of attention. One that many were waiting to see the audio version of and boy he didn’t let down either. Came out with dope lyrics in the OM section, and finished it off with the sick track in the AM section. Way to tear it up SS.

FOTM

This award is for the member of the month of June that has giving the best feedback in votes and feedback in general in both quantity and quality.

Sworded Stylez

The best voter and feeder of the month has to go to Swordedstylez this month. He came back to LA and took the voting by storm and when he slowed down on that he OM feed only continued to get better. He gives feedback to just about, if not, every piece in the OM whether it’s a fresh read or a read that needs some improvement. He goes in and gives his two sents, what he likes and what can be improved on and he does it in a great fashion as well. Swordedstylez also has a successful feedback thread in the elevation centre and has written several guides. Congratulations for winning the first LA Magazines FOTM award. Fuckoff has also made this sig as a reward. Hopefully, all these members that you have dropped your feed on will appreciate it enough to give you the proper feed back and learn to take action as you have.

Here is a little something for your hardwork:

by Fuckoff.

On That note we are on to the

GRAPHICS SECTIONS

A section that has been gradually picking up as more member have come to try out the signature making. There are tons of dope sigs that were made this month. This part of the magazine I will be showcasing some of the signatures that I thought was dope for any of you who have missed these guys

Fuckoff

JBrenn

Smoothtung

This section is to recognize, or put to shame the new members that have made there way to LA. LA wouldn’t continue to grow and get better without you guys so the least we can do is show some recognition and help you along your way to becoming a dope writer or artist, if you aren’t already. If I missed you, I apologize but as you know we can’t list every single member that signed up so I have to go with the names that were familiar to me that signed up in the month of June.

 KwanTem Qaunondrum

A troll that did not last very long before scotty saw his true intentions and slapped him with a permaban.

 Barrybondz

A new active member whom has been dropping feed and votes as well as battling and dropping in the open mic as well. Hope you stick around and continue improving.

 Jesus Burgundy

Another member that put the new members that join the site to shame. Was banned with the first couple days he signed up for the destruction of the OM section with his million new threads and drop he created.

 Red-Bb

Another member that has been shining since he signed up. He lives good feed and has been in the OM section. He had an awesome collab with H4ZE called My Mentor. Look out for Red to continue to improve as well. We look forward to your future at LA.

Masterc_3

A member that has paid his dues strictly in the battlefield. He doesn’t have any finished battles or battles that have been closed out yet but we look forward to seeing how he can improve on his battle verses and where he goes from there.

 D. Von Doom

Another member that is similar to Masterc_3, in the way that he has been in the battlefield doing things. We look forward to seeing hat he can do as well in his future battle. D. Von does not have any battles that have closed yet either.

 Mitch.Wagwann

This new member doesn’t have as many posts as the others but has participated in the community, battlefields, and the open mic. I expect you to continue to do your thing and become more known as time goes on. Keep getting in there with our community and writing.

 Jay

The new member this month that has had the most posts and participation in the battlefield from either battles to votes. He’s had his times of not so worthy comments and a little arrogance but none the less has contributed just as much as any and we need members like him here at LA.

 M1k3

A member that has been strictly to audio mic and open mic whether that it be writing his own work or leaving feedback on other peoples pieces. Which is all we can ask for in a new member, although he doesn’t have the most intricate of feedback yet, who doesn’t want it.

 Ransom

The member that when you look at his avvy, you think it may be Trizzy Tre’s brother. But he has came in and left good feed, and drop some dope OM’s. He’s well on his way of improving and shaking of the rust.

Urban Legends & Bloodlines II

The tournament and the event have already been discussed earlier in the magazine. But as it’s some of the top things going at LA right now it belongs to be in the LA news as well. Urban Legends has been going well, but needs more votes to get to the final round. Hopefully, we can get the votes in and continue to keep at a strong pace through the final and bloodlines II. As said earlier as well, every member of LA is looking forward to seeing some good battles. Our full appreciation should go to Scotty and Trizzy Tre for running these.

 Do Something by Swordedstylez

These were challenges that SS made for the members of LA to complete, so we can pick up the pace of activity in both giving feedback and dropping dope pieces in the OM. As this is the mag for June and the drops were due in July, you will have to wait for the July issue for your drops to be covered in the magazine. So get to finishing them up and dropping good feedback on others so you can expect the same back. Give an applause to SS for getting all this together.

 Lyrical Assault Social Networks

Scotty put up this thread containing all of the social networks for LA. This will help get LA out there and attract new members. So I expect all of you that have social media accounts to like and share everything that LA has to your friends. We want to attract new, long standing members that are here to stay and contribute and I am sure each and every one of you will agree with me. So if you haven’t liked the page or shared any of the posts among your friends, I suggest you do so. Whether, it’s on twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and the many other pages that LA has on the social media side of things.

 New Forums

Scotty has made two new forums for us to partake in. He branched off and made the Cypher Games forum for all of us that are looking to write but don’t want to battle or write a full open mic. This is a great way for even the more skilled members to touch of their skills, shake of the rust, and/or elevate the aspects of their writing that needs to be better. You will find games such as diss the person above, 1-2 Punch, rhyme whoevers above you, and others. The other forum that was created was the ‘emcee lounge”, which is used for members to find partners for collabs and basically to discuss anything that is hip-hop based and relates to the site.

 New Chatroom Trial

Scotty has also changed the chat room for the benefit of us because the previous one had many issues and completes. The new chat room is very well put together using our members names, so no one can fake other members. It has live came, and audio, as well as your normal chat room features. The only issues that members have had with this is that it cuts off the text box half way so it’s hard to see what you are typing and the advertisement at the top of the chat room to a free live cams website.

 Bannings and Warnings

Lenox got a suspension by Point Blank for biting/recycling his verse against Kilo. Kwantem got a perma ban for his fuckery and trolling as did Jesus Burgundy with his end of fuckery in the open mic section. T.O and Io oniel is banned for multi accounts and thanks to Sherlock Stylez, his TwoLio account is also banned. Nice catch, glad to see these dumbasses banned from the site.

 Fuck You’s

The big fuck yous this month of course has your typical fuck yall’s for the lack of voting and feedback in either the battlefield and open mic section. How about a fuck you to you as well from the rest of the members of the site, why don’t you go and drop another vote or feed another piece instead of adding an uneeded fuck yall post complaining. The Law dropped a fuck yall section about voting as well, due to the fact that some members seem to be voting based on other peoples votes. Trizzy Tre gets a big fuck you as well. Arthur gets a fuck you for too, but not as big as Tre’s. Tre decided he was going to wait to be down 2 nothing to throw Arthur under the bus for using his name instead of doing it from the beginning. He can say what he wants to justify it but deep down, I’m sure he knows it was a hell of a bitch move and he should have took the loss like a man. He came back cool as hell, but once again he adds another blemish on his way of getting his respect back. Arthur did the same against DTK and DTK, said it from the beginning and Art changed his verse so the battle could be done, so there are no excuses on Trizzy Tre’s end. As for Arthur, being that said he knows the rules, he has done the same against DTK and had to change it. So he should know better and be more careful. After this, I doubt that will be an issue again. With that being said there really wasn’t much else matters in the fuck you section, just little rants here and there about members.

 Elevation Centre

A place where the members that are trying to improve on their writing or hasn’t been on any rap forums before should really check out. There are plenty of tutorials and members that will help you out if you post what you need in that section of the website. Swordedstylez has taken this section by storm in the month of June. His Feedback thread has been a success and he has been steadily helping members that post in there. He has also written 4 guides in a months period. The philosophy of flow, guide to voting, improving flow with rhyme schemes, and the Guide to Audio. The site as a whole should be grateful to what he has done and what he is doing. When the new members get helped and improve the site as a whole benefits not just this single member.

New Suggestions

 Horrorcore Title

This was a very intriguing suggestion to make a horrorcore belt to go along with the topical, audio, and text belts. In the end, it all still comes down to activity and the idea was shot down, mainly due to the fact that there won’t be enough activity to go along with the belts. There is already not enough activity for the audio belt to change hands as it is. Either way it was still a good suggestion by Shankley.

 La Instagram

This suggestion was taking into account and surged the social media networking thread that was made. The Instagram has been made although it hasn’t had any posts or followers as of yet but I expect it to pick up as the time goes on. This ended up being a decent suggestion from The Law. Now we will have to see how all the social media works out.

 Audio of the Month

This was suggestion by beans and was a great suggestion as well. But ultimately this suggestion faced the same fate as the horrorcore title and many other suggestions alike. The activity just isn’t enough yet to have all these newly added features.

 Built-In Notepad

Originally, various members including Point Blank in another thread brought up this suggestion. It was brought back up again by The Law and has gotten decent consideration from Scotty and other members. Only time will tell if this suggestion will be taking into effect for the members of LA to utilize. It should come in handy.

 Other Suggestions

Then are the other suggestions such as battle leagues, tournaments and a battlefield tutorial. These are the suggestions that have been suggested over and over again, and continue to get the same answers. If you want these things go participate in voting more or take the initiative yourself and run it. Both floss and beans wanted to run their own league. Since then, Floss has been nowhere to be found and beans hasn’t mentioned it again. There is a tournament currently running and an event to come after that. There are plenty of battlefield tutorials and rules to be read about the battlefield. So there are no need for these suggestions to continue to pop about.

June Question of the Month

Who is your favorite writer on LA?

There were many different answers to this question. Many members had more than one favorite writer. In the end, the writers that were favored most were Exoduzt, Smoothtung, Nigma, and Chain. These seem to be the key favorites for most writers and they are very good choices to read if you see something that they have dropped that you have not got a chance to look at yet. Keep up the good work guys and for the others keep improving and doing your thing and maybe at some point you will be the LA’s favorite writer.

Kay B

Superior Member

Lyricist Inc.

58-32 battle record

Kay B is a member that has been on LA since June 2005. So a year from this months June magazine he would have been on LA for a whole 15 years. That is a lot to say about a member. He has definitely stayed loyal to scotty and the rest of the Lyrical Assault members and he has made his mark on LA. Kay B has won one tourney in 2008, Topical Tyranny. Although, he has never actually owned a belt on LA, he more than deserves to get the chance to do so as well, if the time comes that he decides to get back on the battlefield. Kay B Is a member that most people know of, even some of the newer members that have came here and stayed. He has yet to become a veteran himself or have any verses go into the classics, but only time will tell if that opportunity will come for him.

Here are what some of the members of LA have to stay about Kay B:

Originally posted by DressToKill DressToKill wrote:

My first memory of Kay was way back and I was noobie, he was with The Dynasty and it was openly known that he was the topical writer to beat. We really didn't interact a whole lot until I joined The Assasins which was a crew formed way back in the day, we ended up having a crew battle and it was a big deal for me at the time. I seen his skill at work during that crew battle and ended up deciding to refine my text game and trying to make my name respected on LA.

I then started working closely with Señor Perfecto and 2Smooth who were also beasts at the time and I started winning lower ended battles which was good because I racked up a terrible record. I was like -15 with losses so I needed some wins. Kay is literally responsible for like 5-6 of my losses, lol. He'd make open callouts, both topical and straight battles and I'd just keep coming back for more. At first I'd get KO'ed, then I'd get a vote or two, then I'd even get close to winning. I think the second time I beat him was to win the text title, which was last year..that's ridiculous, I've been here forever!

So that's my little background on Kay, he would also help me on MSN actually as well. He's been a huge part of my LA experience and the sites history as well. Jesus Christ he's been a master troll as well, I still think he's "Snoopy Dogs" which was a member that would write bullshit open mics about killing cats! Haha, it's funny what you remember.

When The Law asked me to comment on Kay I was stoked because he actually portrays a veteran well rounded member, he always took feed on the chin and gave in depth feed no matter if it was a 10 min key or the masterpiece that you've been sweating over for weeks. Also, he knows how to gracefully loose! That's something most members don't even realize exist. A battle with beef or without is something that should be respected no matted what the outcome, Kay's always been great with winning and loosing, when he lost against me in the finals of the tourney he was the first to say I deserves it and congrats. It says a lot about a person really.

Basically to sum it up, Kay's a great member with a very detailed history on this website. He helped build me up as a writer and also delivered some great competition. Plus he's a great crew member..can't believe I haven't mentioned that yet lol. Sorry if this is scatter brained in typing it on my iphone

Kay B or Kevin, has been around since my first early days on LA as "Tigger" but I didn't really know him back then. I became familiar and then mates with Kay a few years later when we were in Dynasty together. Genuinely one of the nicest guys on LA, he's never seemed to get sucked in by all the bullshit or politics, and he's definitely one of the more grounded LA members. Skill-wise I've seen him elevate from humble beginnings to a solid consistent writer. I've spent hours in the past swapping bars with him over MSN and I think we both learned a lot along the way. In my eyes he'll always be a "true vet" and I was genuinely happy to see that he was still around on my recent return to LA. Kev, you're a top lad and a great member of the community, we need more like you.

He's a talented guy as well, always been a strong battler, then comes with that odd Open that makes you take a step back. Must be at least top 3 for 'emotional' Opens. When something touches him in a certain way, he can fucking write about it, take my word. Funnily enough, i'm gonna meet him for the first time on the 11th of this month. Both going to see Eminem, Danny Brown and Odd Future at Wembley Stadium. So me and my friends and him and his friends are gonna meet up for a drink before the gig. Will have to take a picture for LA, to prove that the man and myth is actually a real person haha

Kay Fucking B

Now thats one arrogant fucker!....Or so I used to think.

How can the dude just sit online and not post something???

I can see it differently now that I've been a member for some years myself.

LA can be an addictive place, just ask Kay, he's still here, doing the equivalant of a secondary life sentence.

So whats he coming back for???

Well I can tell you that, its the vibe, the great writers that thrive here, the bullshitt, the politics, the back and forths, the beefs and of course the love......................................

See I found a common ground with Kay, we both love what we do and we love what you guys do!

Being here is just one of the ways we all enjoy Hip Hop in our lives, and thats what Kay B is all about.

So when you see someone like Kay B online and you think to yourself "post something you cunt" just remember the dude could be reading your work, enjoying your lyrics and laughing at your jokes. With a hectic life, workload and a wife, kids to feed and bread to bake "old dig"...........This takes dedication, and when you think about it some spammed up feed will always be secondary to a genuine read.

Kay B the writer

Gotta be careful not to contradict myself here, its LA documented that I've told Kay he is a Shitt battle writer who forces his multis more than anyone I've seen, only to have him beat me up in the Lyrical Lobotomy semi final......."that hurt cos I thought I was the better battle writer between us"

I've told Kay I think he lacks creativity and it makes his work seem cheesey sometimes, only to witness him drop something as good as any of the best topical writers here.

Kay B is a legit allrounder with a massive back catalogue of dope topical and battle verses and while he will never technically be the greatest writer he does encompass everything great about being a writer.

So when Kay decides to flex his pen again and its a safe bet that he will, trust I will probably be there to read and enjoy it.

Even if I don't feed it................................................................................

When he was at the peak of his activity he was one of the best topical heads on the site, he probably still is but unfortunately he doesn't show it as much anymore, and he was definitely a dark horse when it came to straight text battling. Back in the day this guy knew how to talk relentlessly on MSN, and it's no coincidence that he has the most posts in LA history. In all honesty I don't think he's ever recovered from his other half (IceZ) going AWOL, but hopefully they may get reunited one day. But on a serious note, it'd be good to see Kay on the boards a lot more and I have a lot of respect for him."

Now for what Kay B has to say.

What made you decide to sign up to LA and stay here for the amount of time you did?

To be honest with you i found LA randomly, i was on a couple other sites similar and thought id find somewhere new, and come across LA, i think the main reason iv stuck around is simply the people, iv met alotta real cool people through LA that iv got to know on and outside of the site

What do you feel has changed for the better and worse of the site?

I don't think much has changed for the good, not in a negative way but simply because its the same site i joined and have always enjoyed, though new ideas brought to the site such as clash for cash have improved things, for the worst i would say the huge growth of multi accounts n the polotics, though on any forum i guess both are expected

Which of the older heads would you like to see active on the site again?

Id love to see people such as Fatal, Sparta,Mc Woods back they were great writters and genuinely contributed to the site

What is your favorite piece of your own work that you have written?

Without sounding arrogant it's hard to choose, not because they were all amazing but because most were personal to me, though if i had to choose id probably say the open i wrote about my niece when she was born.

What has been the most monumental time on LA since you have been here?

Id have to say when dynasty was around, the site was most active, plus i was topical champ lol

What would you currently like to see implanted on LA?

Id simply like to see more tournaments and things run regularly which to be fair has picked up lately

Which rappers/artists have inspired you to write?

As obvious as its gonna sound id have to say eminem

Any other types of music that you listen to?

I tend to like a song rather than types of music, but i listen to alot of 90's RnB

who is your all-time favorite futbol player? I had to ask.

All time fave is Nedved, Current fave is Alonso

If you ever leave LA and never come back, what do you want to be remembered for?

I don't expect to be remembered unless brought up by someone, but id like to be remembered as the random kid that showed up wasn't a great writter but stuck around, listened to advice and become a alot better at what he done

What is your favorite part about writing?

My favourite part about writing is simply being able to vent and express myself, if someones a person like me who don't like talking about things you've seen/heard/experienced imo writing is the best outlet

Is there anyone on LA that you want to collab that you haven't got a chance to yet?

There's some great writters on LA i think most would love to collab with but being more a topical writter myself id have to say freeda

What battles would you like to see?

Id love to see Orion vs Manc, old vs new but that's not gonna happen

Last, but not least who do you want to see interviewed next?

There's alot of people i think would be interesting but surprisingly seeing him from when he first joined to becoming one of the best on LA id have to choose Point

THE END

OUTRO: CLOWN OF THE MAG - Scotty32

My names scotty, and I am a GTA addict

Vice City, Liberty, all of them.. I have it

But I'm always surrounded by a bunch of half-wits

Dammit, I've had it

On LA is the only time I wasn't this passive

But now I'm putting down my controller to take action

I get my duffle bag, and start packing what I need

Grenades, Handguns, molovtovs, and a little bag of weed

I've been planning for this day when I start getting trill

Only time away from the game was work in the mill

Or exercising to improve my sprinting and swimming skills

I leave my home, and begin walking to the main street

Step in front of the first car I see and the lane seized

"I don't want to shoot you" So give me your dang keys

"please, please, I don't want no trouble take these"

He hops in the warrener, and turns on the vibe

Picks up his cell and says "it's about time"

"Hey, boss what do we have today"

"Not too much, it's slow and we're delayed

But can you do me a favor and pick up some supplies"

"Sure, boss but I can't guarantee that someone doesn't die"

I hang up the phone, speed off with a vision

I finally got my guns and off on a mission

Within seconds I arrive, I park, and pull out uzi

Just like the game, the movies, man it's a beauty

I march straight through the automatic sliders

Grab the first bitch and put my gun behind her

I give the cashier a list of what I need

I need this in 5 minutes or this pregnant bitch'll bleed

So in 5 minutes, I take my supplies put them in my trunk

Hop in the vehicle grab my bag with the rest of the junk

Reach in, grab my yellow star stickers to stick on my bumper

"What you think, maybe three, since this jobs covered"

but as I go to get out, the cop opens my door

Pulls me out and I get thrown to the floor

"What are you doing, this isn't justice"

He just looks at me, and yells "you've been BUSTED"!!

This wraps up our June issue of LA Times. Scotty had to be the first clown of the mag since he is the owner of the site. Thanks to all of those who participated in getting this magazine done and those of you whom have took your time to read it. The magazine graphics are were done by Smoothtung. We missed out on Exoduzt's, "What Grinds My Gears" this month. But look forward for that section to go under way in the next issue of the LA Times. Keep up the good work, and keep giving us the things we need to make this work. if there are any remaining questions or suggestions, please follow up through pm or the thread itself.

On another side note, this was copy and pasted from word and it was difficult to get the structure right without rewriting everything. Due to that there are no links that were added with the exception of of the OMOTM. If there is anything you want to find such as a battle, open mic, a certain suggestion, or anything else such as the bloodlines sign-ups or one of our social media pages, I suggest you use our search engine and type it in there. It will come right up.

Thanks again and enjoy.

Wow! This is amazing! Excellent work by all people that's apartness. This is much appreciated by the members. It's nice to see that the issue of the magazine exposes a lot of stuff that people may have missed during the month. With that being said I appreciate all the looks of recognition I personally received in this June issue. I think a lot of people will be motivated to write more stuff to get some type of recognition and furthering their elevation. Something like this, takes time and effort a lot of people's behalf and for that I personally thank you. This opened up my eyes to the graphic section which I really didn't appreciate too much. After this and seeing the great work some of my peers can do actually would like to see some graphic battles maybe in the future. Overall I feel this monthly issue is going to spark activity and develop our artists to be better than they were before. We all know is artists well, some of us know as artist, that we are always good as our last track. Or last written. It's always the "what have you done for me lately" motto. Again, excellent job to all of our active members to contribute to LA in a positive fashion. Keep writing and elevating.

this was really cool. Well written and I appreciate the recognition. I enjoyed reading this. I agree with ILL this should insprire a lot of the writers on here to work hard to elevate so they can get some recognition on next months magazine. If you're gonna make a magazine like this you've got to do it properly, put a lot of time into it and make sure it's the best that it can be.

That is exactly what you've done here so mad props for this. I look forward to being interviewed for next month. Great work here

.co.UK ;) Haha but incidentally "watch this space" on that front, stuff's in the works. I've been talking to Scoot alot about getting some merchandise done and have already sketched up a little "lyrical assault" graffiti piece (which i'm currently trying out various colour options on) as a potential first LA t-shirt.  Any visual artists who're willing to donate their art for free to LA should get in touch with Scoot or myself (bearing in mind that it can't contain other people's artwork - shame considering how good our gfx heads are on LA.)

I've actually had chance to read through this and I love it, except one thing - when you say I'm in line for the audio title, I'm really not haha, I have less interest in holding ANY titles than just about anything else to do with LA. I am however putting some hard work into making it so the audio title is a heavily competitive thing (rather than the 9 year place holder it has been so far) as well as making the audio battling side of the site something we can use for promotion through social media (aswell as other audio elements.)
