well anything anyone writes here will be punchline material -

I agree that shorter deadlines are completely reasonable and would make it smoother...but 2-4 days is too short for some people, cuz as u said, they have lives....however, the idea of posting up battles and opening them up for votes as soon as both verses are in is a good one and is what I was planning on doing....anything for the tourny to not get stagnant and die (like most tend to)

Can I ask, who dropped out to get me in the spot?

Referring to me in third person implies you were expecting someone else to field that....but i'll answer anyway....
The problem with that would be that many people would sit around waiting for the other person to submit their verse to even start writing...that would create a problem because the closer we get to the deadline the higher the chance of a no-show (or at the very least, a rushed verse)....there are a few other minor problems with the idea, but that's the blunt of it....
