I'll just put this here... I'll just link to here the next time someone is mistaken.
1 line of rap = 1 bar. with the most basic of beats imaginable: Kick, Snare, Kick snare = a bar or just count the beats... 1, 2, 3, 4. The kick drum might switch, but you almost always have a kick on 1 and 3 and a snare hit on the 2 and 4 Wait, disregard all that if you want. I know music theory and I'm right. Also, anything not in groups of 4 would be awkward and will mess up the flow at the end of the verse. A 14 bar verse will end and leave 2 empty bars before the hook, for example. and now, maybe sleep... ------------- Insert something rappy here |

He's right you know, until a rapper uses a beat in 7/4 or 6/8 or any other irregular/uncommon time signature. 1 bar = 1 line. The term "Bar" doesn't mean "2 lines" it refers to a period of time in a musical score. Yeah... Not to say you can't experiment... Eminem is one of the biggest names to fuck a round with verse length from time to time... It can often depend on the beat, if it cuts off at a certain point or somethin'... No doubt these guys are correct given there musical abilities! But most of the Mc's spit grime where I live and they do call a set up and a punch a bar!
I think langauges evolve words take on new meanings, when enough people say something wrong and still get there point across then it is no longer wrong? says who?

It's the fact that it's a musical term, not a rap term. Irrespective of what genre or style you are writing/performing in, a "bar" is a musical term defined as - a period of time defined by a set number of beats in a given time. As most rap is written in 4/4 time, that means 1 bar = one line of rap, UNLESS you spit two lines at double-time (basically, you move twice as fast as the beat.) It isn't language, it isn't slang, it has nothing to do with what genre you're doing. A bar is a globally standard measurement/definition which pertains to music, specifically to music writtin in staff notation. rhyming twice in one bar/line is called internal rhyme...reason being that two bars should rhyme at the end (or any variation on internal rhyme patterns, depending on your rhyme scheme) to form kind of like a 'rhyming couplet' you get in poetry This is my first bar and this is ok
