In future rounds could you explicitly state voting rules (i.e first to X votes, Y = KO)...I'm guessing it's standard 3-0 KO or first to 5 but just in case, avoids any potential confusion -------------

Yea entry fees is a dope idea, it would definitely make people perform to the best of their abilities and spend more time on their verses. As for this tournament, I think some of the topics were a bit lame, with some of the verses being predictable before you'd even read them. I think for the next round you should switch it up and just use one word topics, 'revenge', 'hatred', etc. or maybe more abstract topics |

To be honest Scoot, you nailed that right on the head. He was online at about quarter past 8 and had plenty of time to post. No-showing is bad enough but no-showing and claiming you had no time when you blatantly did have time is disrespectful to your opponent. These guys put in work and wrote their verses with style and skill, deserves more than whining and bitching.

I would say that although a week seems like a "long time" if you go on holiday in the summer then you could easily not get much of a chance to drop in the window. Or to spin it another way, you give me a week to write...but realistically by time I go work, come back, eat, unwind then the day is over. So ultimately you have the weekend to write the verse. Then what if you have other real world commitments? The time span the tourney takes place over makes it difficult to say if you will definitely be free to drop in all rounds. So yeah, j understand the need to have discipline but ultimately battles are still open for votes so it doesn't really delay anything. Equally, the best approach to take if you are just about to miss the deadline is to communicate it to Scotty. The next best is to not ask for an extension, then write, it's to write the verse and send it to Scotty, or just post it up...9 times out of 10 the battle will happen because ultimately people want to see the battles happen rather than all this debate shit. -------------

Also I agree with you SS, if you're running short on time and have 2 hours to put something together....just drop the verse. Forget about "cleaning" it up. A no-show is worse then a badly written verse and I've learned that from my own mistakes when I first started text battling. But life happens and there is shit you just cant control.....but being online for almost 2 hours and complaining about the deadline coming up and not actually dropping a verse is stupid.
Rules are rules and they need to be followed. The whole "I only follow rules when they suite me" shit needs to end.
TONS of examples of the pot calling the kettle black in LA......TONS.

Pretty much what cuba said. I'm gunna ignore XLNC cose I don't really expect much from him, but with Fuckoff, I just don't understand why he didn't let me know. This is what pisses me off, if he KNEW he was away, why not speak out, why stay silent then fuck up the round? As I said, I'd of sorted something out for the deadline if I knew well within advance. I actually stated when I posted the signups to let me know if anything was planned such as holidays and shit that might affect the tournament. I originally wanted to slowly reduce the deadlines each round, but I felt the way it was would be a bit awkward so opted for a week, as people are likely to find at least one day in the week to be able to sit down and write. End of the day, we all want the battle to happen and I'm likely to make a few exceptions to get it to work, like with Law in the first round. But you can't expect to get an extension or to be able to take the piss. It just completely disrespects the people who found the time to fit within the deadline. TL;DR? Let people know if the deadline is a problem ASAP! ------------- |

People need to really take this in. Remember this is your community, if you start disrespecting your own community, what do you think's going to happen? This thing we do is a competitive ugly mess at time, but I've always loved that "beef" can be squashed on the field, and moved on from. Even when we're "screaming" at each other and getting heated, the fact that we can get it all out on the field shows an inherent RESPECT for the nature of what we do and the people we do it with. It's why I go into full on "Rage-Mode" when noobies come in and run their mouth then duck the callout to "resolve the issue." If you start no-showing people all the time, you're actually not only disrespecting them (which most of y'all prolly don't care about) but you're also disrespecting this entire culture of "hiphop" that we claim to take part in. DId y'all know that the "battle" element of this shit in it's early origins in breaking was actually used to stop gang violence? Look up the Zulu Nation history and Afrika Bambaataa and you'll see what I mean. If you don't respect "the circle" (where the bboys battled, where freestyle rappers battle in the streets over beat on a boombox with a cheap mic plugged) you're disrespecting the fundamental core of the culture you claim to love, just think on that. |

Also as you stated about "beefs" in LA and how we can go all in heated...back and forth and then when the dust settles, its all good. I def have been part of a lot of that in my short time here. The VM/LI beef was as personal as online text beef can get I think...but honestly at the time it was getting heavy there was no stopping it. Now looking at it I laugh. lol that's partly way me and manc did the "2 Kings" collabo, cuz past shit is past shit. Period. I got a lot of respect for LI and other vets in other crew here that have kept this great site going. At the end of the day...we're writers and hip hop was built on competition. That's why to this day battling still happens in the culture. Some gets personal and some is just to test your own skills against top level dudes in whatever your arena is.
