Hey i was wondering why as part of the default battle rules, feeding off your opponents bars is allowed?
It doesn't make sense to me as ONLY the person who drops second can actually feed, so it would leave the person who drops first at a distinct disadvantage. Unless the battle is more than one round. Can someone explain to me why feeding, as a default rule, is allowed? |

A lot of people always complain about this, and I agree myself tbh that it shouldn't be allowed unless you're doing like a 2 round battle where you both get the chance to feed off eachothers verses. Flipping is an art and if a flip is well delivered it can be the turning point in a battle.
But that's been the case on this website for years, I can't see the default rules changing any time soon tbh. It is what it is... |

Because if you don't allow it then someone can drop a bullshit personal and you aren't allowed to respond to it in your verse...
Also, if you are clever you can preempt your opponents verse...say someone is likely to diss you coz you have a shit battle record...you can then say "yeah but my battle records shit but...", if you are really clever you'll put those things into your filler lines so you still land your main punches & preempt half the shit he's gonna say... Not that the mods are going to do anything about that when you do it & really I guess it's because it's just easier to mod a battle where "any punch goes" rather than making judgements and such... |

Its a shame. It makes me hesitant to drop my verse first.

Most people will accept a battle where you put no flips in & generally the convention is that if you make the call out you drop first...sometimes it's different if you're new & people aren't sure you're gonna drop first...
But equally, many people aren't even that good at flipping...because a lot of people now have come up on the whole "you shouldn't flip" thing so never learned how to do it properly themselves...so yeah, I wouldn't be worried & if you are then just put a "no flips" stipulation in... |

Its not even about putting the "no flips" stipulation on my battles, as just think as a general rule flipping shouldn't be considered as standard. As its only a tool for one of the battlers to utilise.

yeah but in an actual freestyle its different and much harder to pull off. in a text battle its much easier gives much more of an advantage to 1 person.
I've added lines that could be considered 'feeding' or counterish, but i never tried to break down an opponents bars to use them against him. that is pretty lame since it can be so effective by even unskilled battlers. i see it as being looked down on as long as both battlers don't agree to it, regardless of the rules on it. |

Just ask for no flips . Simple.
From my point of view - I've only flipped once anyway - so I'm not bothered. (that was my last battle - fact fans) And rules could change - we're slowly rewriting things - (like one letter at a time.. we're nothing if not consistent)

From my point of view the rules should not be restrictive. You may have noticed this, that the default/house rules are very open - such as unlimited lines, flipping allowed and such. With only crew votes being disallowed by default.
There was a poll not to long ago, and excluding the few new members who were campaigning for change, pretty much everyone just said "But I think it should be allowed by default, but I always battle with the 'no flips' rule anyway so doesn’t bother me" And most people ask for a specific number of lines in a call out, adding "no flips" is no hardship. At the end of the day, if someone goes "who wants to battle, house rules" and never even bothers to check what they even are, its their own fault really. |

If you make your verse good enough then it shouldn't matter if flips are allowed or not..
