A basic way to learn how to write to a beat is to listen to how a (good) MC wrote to the same one. If you need to, study the lyrics carefully to make a note of the rhyme scheme and number of syllables in each bar (line) and mirror that when you then go to write your own shit...

Writing to a beat is generally a matter of intuition - it's something you either can do or can't - but that's not to say it can't be taught either, it's just difficult, as it's a matter of picking up the tempo of the beat and the rhythm of the drums to figure out in what meter you want to rap and how many syllables you can fit into each bar... complicated, right? Hence when it's taught, it often shows - and not in the good way - when compared to naturals...

That is with more reference to tracks though: when you record your verses, rather than just the lyrics... If you're only interested in writing to beats in order to be a better writer, then it's not such a big deal...but common sense tells me you were asking as you plan to start or have already started recording your verses...
. . . Now who said they fuckin' with me?
They just said that FUCKIN' with me
They didn't mean it
Nah . . .

Ill try n help you a bit more.. this is a lot for beginners, and im assuming you are so try this out..

when the beat comes in you'll here a clap in the beat.. generally for every 2 claps you want one line, and that line should finish on the clap.. so keep going like that

Line line line line ( clap ) line line line line(clap)
Line line line line ( clap ) line line line line(clap)
Line line line line ( clap ) line line line line(clap)
Line line line line ( clap ) line line line line(clap)

something like that, it should help your flow. but for sounding good and shit.. you gotta pratice that.. but that will help you get your basic flow down.. make sure all your lines fit so there not to stretched or to short

Look...you can NOT teach how to rap to a beat...since rhythm comes naturally for everyone and it's different for everybody.
Now...usually...yes...you have your words hit whenever the snares hit in a beat...usually the bar ending at the second and fourth snare of each bar...however...this varies on the emcee and the beat itself.
Dont try to teach what cannot be taught.
But still...nice try.

god I'm a dick.

Telling people what you can and cannot teach says more about your teaching ability and skill than it does for ours. And you still refer to a bar as if it were 2 lines. That's mistaken text rapper terminology.

Think up the flow, THEN write to that flow and do not sacrifice the flow for anything. Never. Anyone can write a "hot" verse that does not flow cause all you're constrained by is the rhyme. When you have to work within the margins of a rhyme scheme AND flow. Syllable number is way more important than you text people have shown. A bar of music is a bar of rap, and a line of rap longer than a bar of music does not work. The only exception is when there is a short line followed by a longer one.

You can have a 12 syllable line and a 12 syllable line in a couplet

or

a 7 syllable line followed by a 17 syllable line

The numbers are not exact, as there can be some leeway and this is an example. However, as long as a couplet (which text heads call bars) fits in the 2 measures (which is a real bar), the bar lengths can be ignored.

After I cash in, it's really no justification

Other than shit like that, keep the syllable count reasonable. you people have stupid long lines in your writtens. You can't rap that even though you all say you do. Spit it out loud and see if you can do it taking regular breaths. If you can't, reword the phrasing.

You people sacrifice flow for content not worth sacrificing flow for.
Insert something rappy here

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh... mannn that last shit should be in a verse... hahahahaha I've been there... I say some wild shit just cussin' someone out then think, "Damn...if I'd thrown a set-up on that it coulda been the highlight of a verse!"

Never understood how people couldn't catch the rhythm to a beat... Common sense... And I couldn't teach it effectively over the internet anyway... Has to be learned from example... Listen to your favorite rapper and follow his pattern so you get the correct feel of what is "on tempo" is my only advice.
