Teaching slang: Word

The slang "Word" is probably in the
top 3 most used slangs in Hip-Hop at the moment along with "Wack" and
the most common used "Yo". The term "Word" is used as a form of promise
or as an exclamation of what your saying.

eg. 

(Dave) "Damn man I just saw Noah cheating on Charlie last week"

(Joe) "Say word"

(Dave) "Yeh for real man. My word is bond"

Which
brings me on to "Word is bond". Saying this means that what you are
saying is absolutely correct, and you do not have to put up money to
prove it, you just say it. The term originates from the financial
markets where hirstorically traders would tell each other "my word is
bond", i.e. my word is good enough, you don't need it in writing.

eg.

"Cause I'm frontin' in my ride, and my word is bond" -- LL Cool J (The boomin' system [1990]). 

"Word up" is also a term that is used. It's normally used as a question like "What's up?", or "What's the word?".

There's always different interpretations on things like this but these ones are most founded, word!
