Topic: Request for feedback on Hall of Fame / VetsPosted: 16 February 2014 at 4:33pm |

As promised, once the crew section was sorted out I would look at improving Hall of Fame, more specifically the Vets list. So here it is.
I feel that there should be some sort of system or criteria for deciding who becomes a vet. I'm not thinking of a necessarily rigid set of rules, like "if you do X, Y and X then you become a vet". But at the very least a few basic suggested attributes. As such this thread is not a "recommend a vet", it is here to find out what kind of attributes or criteria the community feels is important for someone to become a vet. You can recommend people as part of an example, such as "I think a vet should be someone who is looked up to like XMan" or "someone who has put in effort to improve the site like Y-Dogg", though recommended names for vetship won't result in any one getting the promotion. I have forgotten most of my old criteria when the current Vets were promoted between 10 and 7 years ago (hence why they are all old heads or unkowns). But as a non-battler, I didn't rank a members skill very high on the checklist. My formula was also rather flexible, which each vet being promoted on their own key merits. For example a strong consideration was for contribution to the site. People who went out of their way and beond what was expected to improve the site and community. Another key attribute was if some one was if someone was highly respected and someone to looked up to. An example of what members should aim to be. Obviously there was more to it than that, but as I said I have mostly forgotten it now. But needless to say, the people who are on the vet list, though it is outdated now, earned their place on that list in their day. So, before we can start to fill the vet list again we need some kind of idea of what a vet should be. What do you think makes somebody a vet? What kind of attributes should a vet possess to be considered for the role? Also what sort of process should a nomination take? Should it be a poll once a month? Recommendations by the community at any time? or selected by a panel of judges? These are just suggestions to get the ball rolling and you are free to condemn them or throw your own into the pot. |

A vet should be someone who is active in all aspects of the forum. Battles, voting, feedback, as well as staying away from constant bitch fests for no reason. Also when there is chance for a logical discussion invoking the site states their piece with respect. Longevity should be key also.

Perhaps a poll to begin with then maybe the current active vets could be the panel of judges later on

I don't think vets need to be active atm. Imo iy should be a way of showing respect to people who left a mark.

I don't think there should be a regular nomination process...you should have to make a positive unusual contribution to the site over a long period.
Generally it should be a role model thing...so it's distinct from battle rankings. |

but yeah i don't think there should be a criteria, someone could tick all the boxes but still be a fucktard!
per month is too often, it will lose it's value eventually. maybe just every now and then.

Should be a proven position.
Criteria, Polls.. They can't all justify a vet. It's not hard to fit things such as wins, contributions.. As far as a poll, whoever has the bigger following could fall on top… It has to be proven in all aspects of the site… Likability, Elevation, Maturity.. Anyone that has cheated at any point in time should not be allowed to reach this status IMO… There is a lot of factors.. To be held to a higher status then the other members of the site and it should be few and far between. We have the Hall of Fame section to give recognition on belts, titles, tournament wins, event wins, OMOTM, MCOTM, and anything else we do.

Vet = someone who has BEATEN a majority of the vets, obviously has a solid skill set and has proven it from time to time, someone who sets an example, someone who only a few other vets can actually fuck with.
I think DTK should be the next vet. |

Great job of reading the original post there Dougster...
Not that he isn't, coz if you base it on what Law laid out & you take currently active heads then I'd say he's up there definitely...I personally don't like the idea of a mod also getting a vet slot, not that it should preclude someone...but I think if the mod thing counted it should be after you drop the modship...two separate roles for me |

Vets list works off the user groups, same with mods. So they can only be in one group.

A year later and still no real idea on how we can decide who deserves to be a Vet.

what about the number of Classics that they have earned? or "OF THE MONTHS" they have grabbed? Just a quick thought.
Maybe like three Classics or 5 of the months

At the place I work we have these Values...it's basically 5 behaviours we think everyone in the company should display. We even rate performance on those values...in other words, if you do a good job but you don't display the values we don't grade you as highly. They call it 'the what and the how'.
When they formed these values they did a big "jam" asking everyone to contribute what they thought the values should be. Maybe we do that here & we make the veteran a pure role model based thing. As in, we say...anyone who gets vet status should display those certain values and has done so over a long period of time. Just an idea...the values we have at work (to give you an idea) are: Respect Integrity Service Excellence Stewardship |
