Elevation Centre: Multies?

multis are the part of the verse that, like flow, improve the sound of the rap. multis are multiple rhymes, these can be internal (2 or more to a line), transitional (where one syllable matches the finishing rhyme and the other matches the new rhyme) and also multiple-bar multis, continuing the same rhyme over a single bar, which can be very effective if done originally. the most important tip for multis though, is to make them multi-syllable multis. no one wants to hear "mat cat fat phat splat" anymore - if you ever use such rhymes make sure they're internal ones. multi-syllable multis are most effective, when doing them, make sure the syllables match up, and additionally, you must ensure that each syllable actually rhymes, or at least sounds close enough. because something like "unbreakable" and "unreachable" just sounds shit, as break and reach are so different. also, dont be too afraid to make things rhyme too cleanly. assonance is very effective and often involves more imagination. assonance is when the vowel sounds are the same but the consonants may be different, such as "this board place / missed score grapes" - not a rhyme, but still very effective (tho a shit rhyme, lol). don't let ANYONE ever tell you that if something is assonance it "doesn't rhyme" - OK technically they're right but assonance is used ALL THE TIME in rap. though it's better for internal multis, because the ones at the ends of lines should be as clean as possible.

with all this said it MUST be emphasised multis do NOT win battles. they're pretty and lyrical, and they do greatly assist flow/drive in a verse, but will never win you battles, so make sure you don't specialise in them neglecting anything else.
