lmfao, Pac and Biggie are old school?! Uhhhhhh. Oldskool: Eric B and Rakim, KRS-One, Kane, Public Enemy, etc... Given my fave rappers are Chino, Big L/Pun, Pharoahe, etc... I'd say my preference is nearer to old than new, though I do respect all the oldskool MCs it's not my immediate preference... Pac and Biggie was known as the golden era... not oldskool, as Pac and Biggie did not invent or initiate the Hip Hop movement, they just escalated it to pop culture, which has turned out to be a bad thing for the music... I hate it when people get it twisted... So yeah my favourites are the late-90s rappers really, and people like Chino, Royce and Pharoahe are still around, as well as underground MCs like Immortal Technique, UK stuff like Roots Manuva, stuff on the net like Chin Check, Neek, Intro, Marxmen, One Der... Good Hip Hop is everywhere... even today... just gotta look for it now... 1 |

One: the real oldskool is great; it made Hip Hop - I struggle to see how people who like modern Hip Hop can't appreciate the oldskool on some level. Two: way before I'd know? Well yeah, I wasn't around in the 70s but I know about Hip Hop's history so uh... yeah. |

i dont hate modern hip hop it is human nature to look back and says that time was better it happens in football and all sports too. i think cassidy is very good at what he does he makes sick party tunes what about em he still around and lyrical, banks is not bad either, kanyes bringing something new to the game he is as orginal as they come, this bias against modern hip hop is unfair scorpia king you may diss 50 cent all the site do but many to not understand the skill he has to have a tight flow let alone lyrics, biggies my fav yeah but im not above saying i like new stuff props cassidy props lloyd banks nas is still doing his thing respect them all
so lets look forward not backwards |

That's fair enough, you treat music as enjoyment, I treat it as an art form.

My post was to Scotty not you... my bad on the timin' of the post. Anyway... I agree wit' what you sayin'. When I'm at college or a club I'm not ashamed to admit I have no problem listenin' to clubbish stuff, that's what it's made for. I'd never buy commercial/Hip-Pop artists' CDs though, and I'd never discuss or follow the artists as they don't concern me, as long as they put music out that will be on in the club and do its job there that's all commercial rap is to me. |

^ Which is why I could never tell you who did what song or where the lyrics came from or when it was released or who's on it etc etc etc as I don't pay attention to that, I just listen to it when it's on in the right atmosphere.

lol... we're gettin' all our posts mixed up. Yeah it's still an art form of course, just a very basic one, anyway when I made the art form comment I was talkin' to Scotty not you... And my point then was that he listens to music just for what sounds good and what he enjoys. Of course I wouldn't listen to somethin' that sounds bad or that I don't enjoy, but the fact is I'm willin' to give more obscure and lyrical stuff more of an open ear instead of jus' sayin' I don't like it. As Hip Hop or music in general isn't about immediate entertainment or satisfaction for me... it's art, and the more complex, deep, specialist, etc that it is, the more there is to appreciate. Again that ain't to say the more complex the better, preferance and skill are two very different things but my preference lies primarily in skill whereas Scotty's for example lies mainly in stylistic elements, how it sounds etc. I'll stop there for now... |

Is Jay Z commercial? Well people like him, Nas, Biggie, Pac - they're all commercially successful but not really rappin' for the commercial appeal necessarily. Though I feel Jigga did fall off a bit as did Pac, but they still kept their stuff real on the most part.
