Eminem is my favorite, but lately I've been listening to a lot of Hopsin. They are 1,2 for me at the moment. I love the "I don't give a fuck" attitude they both come with. Plus they're both great emcees. But if I had to pick just 1 it would be Eminem. |

Are we speaking mainly mainstream or underground or battle rapper or what? best overall ARTIST right now... I'm feeling Eminem J. Cole King Kendrick.... those dudes are artistically gifted and making real music... underground... i like cali boi smooth he's a real dude. some other dudes out of Las Vegas are nice.. dizaster umm math hoffa uhhh who else is under ground?
Battle rappers- there are a few nice ones and any dude can get bodied at any time but i have yet to see cali boi smoove lose.....

Im feeling Hopsin right now. He is lyrically a beast. Another would have to be Atmosphere. Both on my top 25 played playlist.

I'm with Exo actually. For the most part contemporary rap (especially in the mainstream) does nothing for me as a listener at all, but Apathy has been a solid "favourite" of mine for over a decade so I'll stick with him.

fav lyric from any aotp song is from esoteric on king against kings
Money wants you killed, so you better tell cuz To rely on M16's like D12 does. Celph was my favourite aotp member in the first 2 albums but hes lost that creativity in his punches. Apathy been consistent and is current best member imo. the imagery in his opener about valkayry on their latest album unreal. i think vinnies verse on digital war was my fav of the whole album tho

Eso had another mind blowing line on the album before this one. He was like
I got unquenchable hunger, my stomach rumbles like thunder A real Jedi kid, you a Toy Yoda like Tundras

You know. If you'd slowed down a bit, you coulda typed all of those into one post
haha. I agree with most of what you said though, Celph is a beast but i agree the creativity seems to have dropped somewhat. I think Vinnie's always gonna be a monster. From the moment I first heard Winds of War way back when I was hooked, and though at times I've found him to get a little stagnant/repetitive, he'll always drop a verse and remind me how insane his talent really is. Without Paz I certainly wouldn't have bothered trying to be anything more than a casual freestyler.

It's not just punchlines either, most of the dudes discussed are also monsters in various elemtns of rapping. Early JMT stuff (like real early) was a lot more spiritual themed and when Vinnie was still "Ikon the Hologram" his stuff literally blew my mind:
Prepare for the verbal war The hologram advance, physical form Manifest the universal mind into the law Travelling lands, I stand on sands of chemical vibrations The math, kings of light departed in wrath So where you gonna stand when the Elohim return Seven great stages throughout the ages say you burn It's my turn to shine I redefine the crystalline-biological structures, implanted in your mind
just so brilliantly done ;) |
